Indoor Spaces

Samuel Read Hall House

An architectural treasure, the high-ceilinged and classic Federal Style Samuel Read Hall House nestles in 60 green rolling acres of the Brownington Historic District in Vermont’s fabled Northeast Kingdom near Lake Willoughby. Lovingly restored by Preservation Trust of Vermont, the house includes a gracious parlor floor with four sitting rooms, a complete kitchen and a scenic outdoor stone patio.

Technology: This space can be outfitted with either an InFocus Model IN 112, Dukane or Samjo PLC XU75 multimedia projector and one of our portable screens (4’ x 4’). (Please let us know how best to get you connected so we can plan ahead.)
Supporting Amenities: This fully furnished house includes upstairs bedrooms, two bathrooms, historic paintings and artifacts and a kitchen with a triple sink, refrigerator, electric stove, other appliances and dishware. High speed wireless Internet. Pets are welcome.
Rental Fee: $50 per hour or $350 per eight-hour day

Supporting Amenities: One family bathroom and a kitchen with two bay stainless steel sink, refrigerator, electric stove and other appliances. High speed wireless Internet. We can set up as many as 50 white folding chairs and enough white folding tables to accommodate your event. Pets are welcome.

Orleans County Grammar School

The Grammar School, built in 1823, stands proudly at the base of Prospect Hill. The building has a unique and simple elegance, standing alone in a field of rustling grass. The downstairs of this building can hold up to 50 people and is the ideal location for rehearsal dinners, parties, anniversaries, reunions and showers. The Grammar School boasts a full kitchen, a wheelchair accessible bathroom and main hall upstairs.

Lawrence Barn

This English-style barn, built during the first half of the 19th century, is similar to one originally associated with the Alexander Twilight House. The barn was donated to the museum by the Ruth and Roland Lawrence family of Albany, Vermont and was moved to its present site in 1997. The barn now houses agricultural equipment, carriages, sleighs, boats and sugaring and logging equipment.

Outdoor Spaces

Prospect Hill and Observatory Tower

Prospect Hill and the Observatory Tower are a stunning location for any event. Atop a beautiful rolling hill, a 360-degree view expands in all directions creating a breathtaking, natural stage for your special event. The Prospect Hill tower has stood sentinel on this hill for 120 years—a sure symbol of steadfastness and strength—a perfect place to say your vows.

Supporting Amenities: This area features a wide field with access to the Twilight Educational Trail and can be supplied with folding tables and chairs. Prospect Hill is ideal for large outdoor gatherings and can be reserved for private usage upon request. Pets are welcome.
Rental Fee: $25 per hour or $100 per eight-hour day
Location: On Hinman Settler Road with an entrance to the right of the Brownington Congregational Church which is located at 1350 Hinman Settler Road, Brownington, VT 05860.

Supporting Amenities: This area features picnic tables and benches amidst the garden and is perfect for a small outdoor social gathering. There is water available outdoors as well. Pets are welcome.

Cyrus Eaton House Gardens

These historic gardens are located outside the house built in 1834 by Cyrus Eaton, a businessman who emigrated from Canada. This elegant and beautiful mid-19th century perennial garden will be completely restored during summer 2021 by the Four Seasons Garden Club of Newport, Vermont.
